Blackwell was founded by Gary Blackwell in 2001. Blackwell’s reputation started with the flexibility to build many different types of projects catering to a diverse clientele. We specialize in tackling unusual projects with challenging schedules. Blackwell opened office in the Inland Empire to give more attention to projects outside of LA. 

LEADERSHIP

Gary B. Blackwell 

Gary Blackwell graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in 1979. He is a licensed General Building Contractor in California with subcontracting licenses in Plumbing and Electrical. He also has a General Building Contractors license in Nevada. Gary is a third-generation contractor who started working with his father while attending high school and college. He has over 35 years of experience on a variety of construction projects including commercial/industrial warehouse and offices, universities, primary and secondary schools, charter schools along with mixed used residential. He also has extensive experience in site development including city parks, street construction, site improvements for schools and private health facilities.

Jerry Lopez 

Jerry is a South Los Angeles native, a modern contractor who believes in collaborative autonomy, and understands more than trust, the contractor has to show he can deliver.  Jerry spearheaded Blackwell operations and oversees all projects. Prior to Blackwell, Jerry gained extensive design experience as a Senior Designer and project manager for a non profit development organization. He has over 17 years of develop, design and build experience.

Blackwell has proven to be a leading contractor in preconstruction, construction management and general contracting in this industry. Over the last 20 years, Blackwell has provided a large variety of construction services in these areas:

Institutional: Charter Schools and private schools. Blackwell has completed over 40 charter schools in the last 20 years making us one of the experienced charter school contractors on the West Coast.

Healthcare: Senior housing, clinics and medical tenant improvements.

Commercial: Including financial institutions, general office and tenant improvements.

Industrial: Tilt up and block warehouses, food processing plant renovations and owner-user facilities.

Residential: Multi-family condominium, Apartments, student housing and mixed use projects.

Hospitality: Hotel renovations, athletic facilities and restaurants.

Recreation: Parks and play fields.
